The appliance: core sizing and lifecycle

Oracle Database Appliance packages compute, NVMe storage and software into a single machine with single-bundle patching (OS+Grid+DB together): capacity-on-demand licenses only the cores switched on (starting from 2), HA is two nodes with RAC or Data Guard, DB Systems and VMs on KVM isolate the environments. It's the Exadata philosophy at SME scale: less tuning, more standard.
